FAQ...
Q: Can I get a tax receipt for events run by Avalon Sisters?
A: No, not yet. We are just in the start-up phase, and are trying to keep events affordable so that as many people can attend as possible. Most charitable organizations need a minimum donation of $20 to issue tax receipts, and our events do not ask our guests for that kind of contribution. Stay tuned! As we grow, we will let you know if and when we are able to offer this value-added service.
Q: Is Avalon Sisters a charity, society, or some other kind of group?
A: As we still consider ourselves in our infancy, we have not yet sought out charity or society status. Avalon Sisters is a grass-roots community group with a charitable focus. We create events that generate financial support to meet a need we see for women in our communities. Each event is linked to a particular individual or organization (with their 3rd party permission). We also want to help build community, by helping people find causes they are passionate about and give back to their community by volunteering at events or sharing their skills with others.
Q: Can I suggest an event idea?
A: Absolutely! Your bucket list item might just be on our bucket list. We have a lot of event ideas in the works, but we always welcome suggestions and feedback. Avalon Sisters is all about building and supporting community together.
Q: Can I suggest a charitable organization or person in need?
A: Please do. Our main focus is organizations, as it is difficult for us to assess need. However, on occasion, the need may be obvious so we will look at individual cases if we can. We want to know how we can best put our energy to support the most deserving in our community. Please make sure that if you put someone's name forward that it comes confidentially via email - and that we have their permission to raise funds on their behalf.
Q: Can I donate to the event or cause even if I can't attend.
A: Always! Please donate via e-transfer to our email address, in cash to one of us, or donate directly to the charitable organization. We don't need to be the middle people – we are just happy that you agree that they could use our help.
Q: Can I offer my venue if there’s a good fit between our site and what you are doing?
A: We would love it! If you see an opportunity to give back as a business in your community, we welcome your offers to make our events even better. There is always an added benefit of working with us as one of our goals is to have really fun events (which usually means we consume food and beverage). Plus, you’ll have the added bonus of good karma being shared through social media. Please email us at if you want to connect.
Q: Can I pay at the event instead of paying in advance?
A: Unfortunately no. We require payment in advance to secure your ticket for each event. Our partners typically require a guarantee of a minimum number of guests in order to obtain special group rates. We need those group rates in order to offer our guests a special rate that allows for a philanthropic contribution to the charitable organization. In order to ensure that we stay true to our philanthropic vision and not make the organization (or us personally) liable for unpaid costs, we need to obtain payment in order to confirm participation at events.
Q: Can I cancel once I have purchased my ticket?
A: Not at this point. Instead of cancelling, may we recommend that you gift your ticket to someone else? Unfortunately once tickets are purchased for an Avalon Sisters event, we cannot refund payment for a few reasons. First of all, we are too small to pay administrative costs to refund tickets. Second, once tickets are confirmed, it might prevent someone else from securing a spot since we sometimes have limited tickets or seating available to us and on many occasions sell out. Thirdly, once we confirm numbers with our partners, we are not typically able to get our money back. If there are extreme circumstances that prevent you from being able to come, we may be able to give you the charitable donation portion back, but hope you'll leave that for those in need. However, since we really want our events to be a success, we sincerely hope you’ll simply introduce someone else to our events and just treat them to your ticket. Consider that a random act of kindness!
